MARVIN DARKO is a photographer and filmmaker based in Hamburg, working across photography, moving image and emerging visual technologies.

His work is not tied to a single medium or aesthetic. It starts with the situation itself: the people, the environment, the energy and the story that needs to be told.

Depending on the project, this can take the form of an analogue photograph, a digital campaign, a fast-moving reel or an image developed through a combination of camera work, post-production and AI.

Marvin moves naturally between observing and directing, and between traditional and new ways of making images. He values the unpredictability, texture and limitations of analogue photography just as much as the possibilities offered by new technology.

For him, neither is a statement in itself. They are tools. AI becomes part of the process only when it extends an idea or the visual language of a project without feeling forced or disconnected from the original image.

This openness allows his work to move between documentation and construction, instinct and control, physical processes and digital experimentation while retaining a coherent visual sensibility.

His background in photography, filmmaking, lighting and production gives him a practical understanding of the entire process, from the first idea and the moment on set to the final image.

At the core of his work is a simple idea: to be present, pay attention and create images that retain something of what it actually felt like to be there.
